I was born on January 1968 in Queens, NYC. My family immigrated to Israel when I was 4 years old. I was educated in the city of Haifa, in Israel. From childhood I have always preferred creative activities like drawing, knitting, and sculpting in clay. In 1982, at age 14 I began regularly attending Ceramics classes, and have never stopped sculpting.
On my sixteenth birthday I received an art book of the 19th century sculptor August Rodin, I was extremely moved by his sculptures, and the sculptures of his assistant, student, lover Camille Claudel. As an adult I studied ceramic sculpting at a community school of arts in Tel Aviv. My art teacher, Yaakob Hiram has encouraged me to focus on my personal style, figurative art, taught me the importance of texture and movement in the sculpture, and the advantage of the deletion of unnecessary details.
Art was one of my majors in high school, along with biology. When it was time to choose a profession, I chose what was considered then the practical path and went to business school. Today I’m concentrating only on my art in my studio at Ithaca New York.
I once learned that an artist can not help but practice his art. It’s a call from his inner being that he can not resist. This call has accompanied me through all my life.

I am a sculptor of figurative art. Life evokes different emotions in me. I have a need to express my feeling or impressions of what I experience. I am a strong believer in the importance of time and process, but in my sculpturing I try to seize a certain moment, nuance or emotion.
The act of actual forming the sculpture is, for me, the most important part of the process of making a sculpture. Touching, pushing and modeling. I love the feeling of clay, and the forming of the clay comes directly from my heart. My sculptures are not the least abstract. They are figurative and detailed although the process, which is very emotional, could lead to a very conceptual sculpture.
My sculptures are textured. Never smooth or rubbed out. I leave fingerprints and traces of the movement of my forming tools and let the texture reinforce the expression of the form.
The clay has always been a source of inspiration to me, a medium to express and let go of my inner world. Clay was a major part of my childhood, and continues to be in my adult life. Sculpting women as a young woman was my way of dealing with the changes in my maturing body. My need to expose myself, to be seen, was satisfied in nude sculptures, using myself as a subject of my sculpting. This process has helped me overcome the frustration that developed in me about growing up in a world where little girls are raised with conflicting messages: on the one hand praising ambitious and achieving women while at the same time encouraging women to be passive. Growing older and my journey through life and clay have brought me to a position where I feel calm and fulfilled. I have let frustration fall and sculpt with passion and love.
